There is little say about hot work permits as it pertains to optimizing the PSM program.
In short, the PSM Coordinator should:
Ensure hot work permits are available to the operators.
Develop a checklist or a hot work permit book may be purchased. Oftentimes, a facility’s insurance carrier will provide free hot work permit resources (this coincides with their incentive structure!).
Train their operators, supervisors, and contractors on how to complete the hot work permits.
🚨Readers should also be alerted to the new RMP requirement that hot work permits must be retained for three (3) years.[1] Previously, they only had to be kept on file for the duration of the hot work. Keeping them on file enables PSM Coordinators to properly audit the implementation of the hot work permit program.
