What is a Hot Work Permit? | Blog No. 12

Seeing hot work at an industrial facility is about as common as hearing laughter at the playground. There is always something to cut, grind, or weld. Here is an explanation of the hot work permit requirements found in Title 40 CFR §68.85 and Title 29 CFR §1910.119(k):

The facility is required to issue a hot work permit for any hot work operations near a covered process. Note: this is an internal permits—not something you need to obtain from any regulatory agency. The permit must document that fire prevention and protection requirements have been met, indicate the authorized dates for hot work, and identify the object on which the hot work is to be performed. The permit must be kept on file until the hot work operations are completed.
