IIAR 2026: Where Industry, Innovation, and Purpose Converge | Blog No. 118

For those in the natural refrigeration industry, IIAR often feels like a set of high holidays, a time when professionals from across the country come together to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and celebrate the work that makes this space so meaningful.

IIAR 2026 lived up to that expectation and more.

Amidst a packed schedule of exhibit hall hours, technical sessions, and countless conversations, our team had the opportunity to do what matters most: connect. Whether it was sharing ideas, exchanging perspectives, or even engaging in the occasional (friendly) debate, the conference reinforced just how passionate this industry is about safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

One of the standout moments came from a discussion around the inclusion of Shelter-in-Place protocols within facility Emergency Action Plans. It sparked meaningful dialogue and highlighted an important truth: progress in process safety often starts with challenging assumptions and advocating for change.

Beyond the sessions, the informal moments, cocktail hours, late-night conversations, and spontaneous discussions proved just as valuable. These are often where ideas take shape and relationships deepen, and this year was no exception.

A Clear Signal: The Industry is Ready for What’s Next

A major theme that emerged throughout the conference was the industry’s appetite for innovation.

The response to Samwise, our intelligent PSM software, made that unmistakably clear. Across conversations with operators, engineers, and decision-makers, there was a shared recognition that traditional approaches to PSM management are no longer enough. Facilities are looking for smarter, more efficient ways to manage their programs, solutions that not only improve compliance but actively strengthen safety culture.

Seeing Samwise introduced firsthand and watching the reaction to it was a defining moment for our team. It reinforced that we are not just building software; we are contributing to a broader shift in how process safety is managed.

Strengthening Our Role as a Partner in PSM

IIAR 2026 also provided an important platform to showcase the continued growth of Macha PSM.

Throughout the event, we connected with valued clients, prospective partners, and industry leaders, demonstrating our capabilities in PSM consulting and engineering support. More importantly, we listened.

The conversations we had gave us deeper insight into the real challenges facilities are facing today, from evolving compliance requirements to operational constraints and resource limitations.

One need that surfaced more strongly than expected was the demand for international PSM support. That message came through clearly, and it’s one we’re already acting on. As the industry continues to expand globally, so must the solutions that support it. Both through Samwise and our consulting services, we are actively exploring how to meet that need.

Learning, Competing, and Staying Humble

Of course, no IIAR experience would be complete without a few memorable moments along the way.

Lowell Randel’s session on the ever-changing compliance landscape stood out as particularly valuable, offering practical insight into navigating regulatory complexity in today’s environment.

And while being invited to participate in IIAR Jeopardy was an honor, it also served as a humbling reminder that there’s always more to learn, especially when your buzzer may or may not be working.

Building Relationships That Matter

For some members of our team, this was their first IIAR conference, and the experience did not disappoint. Being surrounded by knowledgeable professionals who share a commitment to advancing process safety created an energizing environment. Equally impactful was the opportunity to meet teammates in person, strengthening relationships that had previously only existed virtually.

Those connections, both within our team and across the industry, are what make events like IIAR so valuable. They turn collaboration into something tangible and set the foundation for future growth.

Looking Ahead

We returned from IIAR 2026 with more than just new contacts and conversations, we came back with renewed energy and a stronger commitment to the work ahead. The conference reinforced why we do what we do: to improve safety, support facilities, and help move the industry forward. As we look toward the future, one thing is clear, the natural refrigeration industry is evolving, and we’re excited to be part of shaping what comes next.

We’re already looking forward to next year.
